The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is the latest addition to the Samsung M series and the first to sport 5G connectivity. Samsun Galaxy M42 5G is also the most pocket-friendly smartphone in India. Launched for Rs. 21,999, the Galaxy M42 5G aims to bring the mess in the market with 5G but Samsung is not the only company in this 5Grace. With multiple budget 5G smartphones now available in the market, does the Galaxy M42 5G have the upper hand? I got to spend some more time with my smartphone and here is my first impression.

In the box

  1. A phone itself
  2. You will get a 15W charger and a USB cable which is a Type C cable
  3. A sim eject tool
  4. But no case in the box

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G price in India

Samsun Galaxy M42 5G is launched with a price of Rs 21,999 for the base variant with 6G+128GB. The higher variant of the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G has 8GB+128GB and the price is Rs. 23,999.

Galaxy M42 5G Design

The Galaxy M42 5G carries a fantastic comparison to Galaxy A42 5G and unsurprisingly these devices have many Features in common. Since the recent one hasn't been launched in India yet, the Galaxy M42 5G looks fresh. Galaxy M42 5G is a big smartphone and it has a 6.6 inches display with a dewdrop notch at the top. The build quality of this device is good and it does not seem plasticky. The device has a polycarbonate back with a glossy finish which Samsung refers to as Glasstic. This finish is quite easy to Blemish. I found myself Wiping the back quite general to keep it clean. Samsung didn't provide a back cover in the box which is quite unofficial, it would help keep fingerprints off.

There are two color variants are available for Galaxy M42 5G prism dot gray and the prism dot black. I had the recent one with me, which has a color black finish with the top portion being solid black while the rest gets lighter. The lower three portions of the back also reflect light in a lustrous pattern. I found all this a bit too jazzy for my likings and the lack of the faint color option may make this device choice harder for some people...

The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G has a square-shaped camera module that contains four sensors with an LED flashlight just beneath. It pokes very slightly and I don't see this as a problem. I also found the button placement is good in Galaxy M42 5G as I can easily reach them while holding the device. Samsung has curved the back panel. Samsung curved the back design making it easy to grip the device.

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G Specifications

Samsun Galaxy M42 5G is powered by Snapdragon 750G processor It has a 6.6 inch super AMOLED display with HD+ resolutions which is surprising and a bit disappointing for a Smartphone that costs Rs 21,999 almost 22k. The Galaxy M42 5G has an in-display fingerprints scanner that is easy to reach and the display does have the Corning gorilla glass 3 protection which should have to keep display scratches free but in comparison with other brands, it is an again disappointment to Samsung Galaxy M42 5G because almost every budget device has corning gorilla glass 5. There is a tiny dewdrop notch contains a 20-megapixel front selfie camera. The primary camera is 48 Megapixel with 8 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 5-megapixel macro camera a 5-megapixel depth sensor camera.

It has the software OneUI (Not OneUI Core) based on Android 11. The device was running the March security patch But got an update soon after unboxing the device. OneUI feels familiar to Samsun users and I did not find any UI experience to be different from Galaxy A52. There are some useless applications pre-installed which I recommend users uninstall these applications soon after setting up the device. The User Interface (UI) feels smooth and the overall experience is good.

Samsung has built-in the powerful processor for the Galaxy M42 5G to take the battle from other brands. The starting price Rs. 21,999 is competitive but it does me wonder whether Samsung cut corners to reach it. So, the Galaxy M42 5G is worth buying? My Answer is Yes.
